SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPY

Speech Therapists investigate, diagnose and treat communication disorders, including difficulties with speaking, listening, understanding language, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering and using voice. These issues may arise because of developmental delays, brain injuries, learning disability, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, hearing loss, as well as other problems that can affect speech and language. People who experience difficulties with eating and/or drinking can also be helped by a Speech Therapist.

Our Speech Therapists provide high quality, evidence-based support to help improve:

• Speech – speaking clearly and being understood
• Stuttering – speaking smoothly
• Voice – what it sounds like and volume
• Eating and drinking– safe and effective chewing and swallowing
• Language – understanding others and communicating thoughts and ideas
• Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) – using different forms of
communication (e.g. communication boards, technology, Key Word Sign)
• Literacy – reading, spelling and written expression
• Play and Social Skills – interacting with others
• Orofacial Myofunctional therapy- appropriate use and coordination of facial muscles

We provide speech therapy assessments and therapy to children and young people in
our clinic in Central, as well as in selected schools. We are flexible in our approach to
ensure that each client receives a therapy plan tailored to their individual needs. We use
evidence-based practice to ensure that our intervention approaches are effective as well
as fun!
