Description

Presented by Stephanie Eber, Speech Pathologist

Suitable for parents of children aged 2-10 years.

We all want our children to be the best versions of themselves, and minimise any obstacles that they may encounter in their lives so they have a smooth and healthy childhood and adolescence.

Sometimes behaviours that we become normalised to, such as snoring, dribbling, continuing to suck a thumb or pacifier (past the age of 3) and open-mouth breathing can actually change the way a child’s face grows and can have a negative impact on their learning and development. There is often an underlying reason for these behaviours that are worth exploring so the child can get adequate rest, have optimal focus at school and reduce the need for orthodontic treatment in adolescence.

This workshop will go through the possible underlying reasons for each of these behaviours, discuss the impact of them and how they can be addressed.

Parents can expect to gain the following knowledge:

  • Determine why children drool, suck their thumbs or pacifiers, for a prolonged period of time, refuse to chew hard food, snore and breath through their mouths
  • Understand the effect of these behaviors on the growth and development of childrens’ facial muscles, dentition, learning, speech, sleep and health
  • Learn how to address these concerns to prevent life long implications
