Description

This program is suitable for children aged 5-7 years who have difficulties learning language or who could benefit from some intensive support to develop oral language skills. This language therapy group is evidence-based and designed to improve children’s inferential comprehension of stories.

A selection of stories, tools and strategies will be used to improve the following skills:

  • Vocabulary
  • Understanding literal sentences
  • Ability to understand and discuss character’s thoughts, feelings and motivations (this in turn helps to develop social skills)
  • Knowing and recognising the different parts of a story (story grammar)
  • Being able to retell a story
  • Inferential comprehension- being able to understand information that is implied and being able to gain a deeper understanding of stories.

Group size: 3- 5 children

Led by Fiona McElhone, Speech-Language Pathologist
