Sharing Sensational Stories

This course is suitable for children 7-10 years old

Dates & times

 THS – The Grove  July 25-29, 2022  9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Description

This course is suitable for children aged 7-10 years old.

Does your child find it hard to retell a story or event? Does their oral or written stories lack structure and/or detail? Do they use lots of smaller sentences instead of long sentences containing connecting words (eg. although, so, while, finally, after)? Do they find it hard to explain how characters are feeling? Then this is the camp for them!

This fun and interactive week-long camp will help participants improve their abilities to share clear, detailed and well-structured stories.

We will:

  • Review the structure of a narrative
  • Increase the child’s use of descriptive words to describe characters and settings
  • Identify and explain problems and solutions in stories, utilising complex sentence structures
  • Support children’s understanding of the thoughts and feelings of the characters
  • Learn how to incorporate dialogue into their oral and written narratives

Children will be encouraged to share their stories with other participants, and will learn how to do this confidently and clearly.

Led by Dr. Ipsita Mitra, Literacy Specialist
