Description

This workshop for parents of children 3-12 years old.

This workshop is suitable for mothers, fathers, couples or individuals who are interested in understanding more about different parenting styles and how to parent more effectively.

Parenthood should be a wonderful time in our lives. However, it might not be easy for some as we are often dealing with our own issues at the same time, including emotional, relational or other environmental factors. Unresolved life events, traumas or childhood memories may be triggered while we parent our kids. We also often neglect our own well being when we face challenges and still expect ourselves to be at our best.

Positive Parenting empowers parents as we become aware of our emotional states and taps into our own internal resources such as gratitude, kindness and mindfulness.  When we learn to manage our emotions we improve our communication and empathy thereby placing us on a path for finding joy and strength in parenting.

With the current Covid-19 pandemic and social distancing challenges, parents are faced with ever-demanding situations like never before. You will be empowered to meet these challenges in our class.

In this workshop, you will learn to:

Session 1- Understand and regulate your Emotions

We examine the elements of family strength and some typical home dynamics. We will also discuss how the emotions of moms, dads, and caregivers affect the home environment. You will learn about your dominant emotion and how to regulate it. We will introduce “self-care” as the first step to effective parenting and discuss why we have negative emotions and how to call upon positive emotions.

You will have a chance to experience an example of “mindfulness” in the session.

Session 2- Communication with empathy

How do you currently communicate as a mom or a dad? We will talk about how communication with empathy can be one of the key factors for children’s learning and for them to thrive. We will also talk about some common unhealthy thinking styles, which affect the ability to communicate well, and the triggers for negative emotions or anger.

Session 3- Resolving conflicts at home

Very often conflicts at home give moms and dads the feeling of helplessness. Through expectation management and some tips/steps, we may be able to shift the focus and start better managing disagreements or realise the positive side of some conflicts.

We will conclude the workshop with a “tool box” for moms and dads
