Advanced Literacy Skills

For students grades 4-12

Dates & times

1-hour sessions are available Monday to Friday, between 9 am and 6 pm starting June 28, 2021.

Description

The past year has been difficult for school children who have had to adapt to online learning then in-person learning then back to online learning again! It may or may not have met their individual learning needs.

To address any possible learning gaps, particularly related to long-form literacy activities, our Advanced Literacy Program ensures that the academic performance of children improves and they confidently meet grade-level literacy goals.

This program is specially oriented to enhance the learner’s ability to research, review, and reflect and develop self-learning which is an important skill for higher grades.

Topics include:

  • Reading – Improve oral fluency and comprehension skills using above-grade-level texts.
  • Writing – Develop critical thinking skills through reflecting on content, organization, accuracy, and presentation of writing focusing mainly on persuasive, creative, and research-based writing.
    • Knowledge of persuasive devices, language items, and their functions.
    • Creative writing skills through exploration and discovery and acquiring content knowledge
    • Promote independent research writing skills for books, games, and movie reviews.

Please phone the BFDC for a free 20-minute consultation at 2869 1962 to discuss how the BFDC can improve and advance your child’s higher level literacy skills.
